Scaling an AI Enabled Virtual Care Platform to Enterprise Reliability

Scaling a clinical platform through UX leadership, design systems, responsible AI, and enterprise-grade reliability.

The Challenge

When I joined Collette Health, the platform was evolving from an early-stage concept into a mission-critical clinical system. Hospitals were increasingly relying on virtual observation and virtual nursing to support patient safety, placing new demands on the platform's usability, reliability, and maturity.

The challenge extended beyond improving individual screens. It required scaling the user experience, establishing a consistent design practice, aligning product decisions across teams, and helping the platform evolve to meet the needs of enterprise healthcare.

Leading and Maturing UX

As the company grew, I built and led UX within a 22-person Product & Engineering organization. I established the design vision, design system, and experience standards that shaped how clinicians and administrators interacted with the platform.

The work matured UX from early concept development into a structured, research-driven practice, with reusable interaction patterns, testing protocols, and cross-functional rituals. This created a more consistent foundation for product development while giving design a stronger role in strategic decisions.

Designing for Reliability

In clinical environments, reliability is more than a technical measure. It is fundamental to user trust.

I made reliability a core consideration in the UX strategy, focusing on workflows clinicians could depend on during continuous monitoring and high-volume use. That meant reducing cognitive load, clarifying system behavior, and designing for the demands of high-acuity environments.

Establishing Product Governance

As the platform expanded, maintaining a coherent experience required alignment across stakeholders, priorities, technical planning, and customer commitments.

I created the Product Council as a governance model to bring those perspectives together. It gave teams a shared forum for evaluating priorities, managing expectations, and reducing friction between product, design, engineering, and other stakeholders.

By integrating design considerations into roadmap and planning decisions, the council helped connect the intended user experience to the realities of product delivery.

Bringing AI Into Clinical Workflows

As AI became a more important part of the platform's differentiation, I partnered closely with Innovation and Engineering to translate emerging capabilities into useful, clinically appropriate experiences.

The focus was on making AI-driven functionality intuitive and validating it with real users. Rather than treating AI as a standalone technology layer, the work integrated new capabilities into clinical workflows.

This design-led collaboration enabled the delivery of nine AI capabilities while keeping usability and clinical context central to the experience.

Evolving the Product Identity

I led two full product rebrands as the platform matured. The work went beyond visual identity to reflect the changing needs of an enterprise healthcare product.

It included modernizing the design system, refining high-acuity workflows, and improving consistency across clinician-facing and administrative experiences. Together, these changes helped align the product's presentation and interactions with its growing maturity.

The Results

The platform's growth demonstrated the scale and reliability required to support continuous clinical workflows.

  • 170+ health systems using the platform

  • 30M+ video minutes per month

  • 99.999% uptime

  • Nine AI capabilities delivered through design-led collaboration

  • Best-in-KLAS recognition for Virtual Sitting & Nursing in 2025 and 2026

The Impact

This work demonstrates my ability to build and lead UX practices, design for safety-critical environments, and align teams around a coherent product vision.

By connecting design systems, governance, reliability, and responsible AI, I helped mature a clinical platform to support enterprise-scale use.
